A Medieval continental sterling imitation of a silver coin of Edward I, probably dating from 1313-1322 AD. It was struck for Gaucher of Chatillion, at the Mint of Yves. Obv. legend:+GALCh'SCOMESPORC; crowned ruler facing. Rev. legend:MON/ETA/OVA/Y.VE; long cross with three pellets in each quadrant. Mayhew Type 244. A complete continental sterling imitation of a Medieval long cross penny, issued by William of Hainaut, Bishop of Cambrai (1285-1296 AD). Mint: Cambrai; double-pellet stops. This sterling coin is from the latter half of his episcopate, dating to c. 1290-96. The obverse depicts a bust facing front with rose wreath instead of crown; the obverse legend reads: + GVILLS:EPISCOPVS. The reverse depicts a long cross pattee with three pellets in each quadrant; the reverse legend reads: CAMERACENSIS. Cf. Mayhew 1983, No. 88.

A very worn, and slightly clipped and bent silver Medieval long cross penny of uncertain ruler and mint. It is likely that this is actually a Continental sterling imitation of an Edwardian type, c. AD 1263-1353. The obverse has extensive wear which has removed the bust and the legend, whilst the reverse is also moderately worn and the circumferential clipping has restricted the legend, making identification difficult. It is possible that instead of a crowned bust on the obverse, the bust is wearing a floral wreath as is common to these types.
