A fragment comprising just over half of a Medieval continental imitation of an Edwardian sterling penny or 'Crockard' of John I (1261-1294), Duke of Brabant 1267-1294. dating to the period 1267-1294. Minted at Brussels or Louvain. Mayhew (1983) no 43 var.. Measurements: Diameter: 18.78mm. Weight: 0.8g. Crockards appeared in England during Edward I's reign when there was a coin shortage. An incomplete medieval silver Edwardian 'sterling' imitiation penny of Guy de Dampierre, Marquis of Namur, count of Flanders (1279-1305). Pollard obverse (probably Mayhew 13), dating to 1296-1298. Mint uncertain. Mayhew (1983, 32). Half of the coin remains and is consistent with being torn in half probably by farm machinery as opposed to being 'cut'. It measures 18.6 mm in diameter, 0.55 mm in thickness and weighs 0.6 g
