Silver coin. Possibly a worn penny of William I (1066-1087), pierced with a round hole of diameter 1.5mm close to its edge (see Spink 2017 page 149, nos 1250-1255 as examples); creased. The reverse, which is better preserved, appears to include two loops at the end of strands of a cross or flower motif bounded by the outer circle. John Naylor kindly comments: 'I'm not entirely convinced that this is a Norman coin, the reverse doesn't quite fit any of the types and each 'arm' is linked by a plain band forming a plain circle inside a beaded circle (if that makes sense!).
