A fragment of a silver medieval coin of an uncertain ruler, possibly Stephen, uncertain type, uncertain mint, moneyer: PILL[ ]. The coin may date c.AD1100-1150.
The coin is fragmented with one straight, cut edge and one irregular edge suggesting the coin may be a cut halfpenny. The poor striking of the coin might suggest Henry I or Stephen.
Weight 0.37g, straight edges = 8.35mm x 9.43mm.

Obverse crowned bust facing with sceptre in right hand.
Reverse large cross potent with small cross potent in each quadrant. The coin has been clipped and the legends removed.
The coin is 17.5mm long, 8.9mm wide and 0.8mm thick and weighs 0.46g.

A hammered silver cut halfpenny of Henry I, mint uncertain. On the obverse is a facing bust crowned and diademed with the head 3/4 left and a sceptre in the right hand. The legend reads: HE[---]. The reverse has a quadrilateral with a lis at each angle over a cross fleury, the legend has worn away. The coin is similar to North number 871, a type struck between 1125 and 1135.
