A silver medieval cut halfpenny attributed to the baronial coinage of William of Aumale, Earl of York, produced during the reign of Stephen (1135-1154) and dating to c. AD 1150, probably struck in York.  The design showing a knight advancing right with sword on the obverse, and a cross patée in quatrefoil with annulets on cusps and in margin on the reverse is known mostly from pennies of Eustace FitzJohn (North 929). An incomplete Medieval silver cut halfpenny coin of Stephen (AD 1135-1154), Awbridge type dating to AD 1154-1158. North (1994) number 881 (BMC type vii). Uncertain moneyer, mint probably Northampton or Norwich. The coin is 18.8mm long, 9.1mm wide, 1.0mm thick and weighs 0.68g. It has been cut along the line of the reverse cross.
