A worn and corroded 17th-century copper-alloy post-medieval trader's token halfpenny issued by William Coricke of Taunton, Somerset in 1659 AD. This token has been doublestruck on the reverse. It has also been silvered. This is highly unusual; only three tokens recorded on this database have received a similar treatment (refs. CAM-944452, CAM-942284). It is therefore assumed that silvering was not conventional and that the surface treatment was applied after the token fell out of use. Benjamin Ray, Perpetual Curate of Cowbit and Surfleet (who was elected a member of the Spalding Gentlemen's Society in 1723), and a relative of the founder, Maurice Johnson.' (p. 50).
