A silver post medieval coin; a Scottish twenty pence of Charles I (1625 - 1649), Third coinage (1637 - 1642). The coin has a diameter of 16.2mm and is 0.5mm thick. It weighs 1g. The coin has been struck off centre and is slightly bent. It has also been pierced with a lozenge shaped hole above and to the right of the bust, from the obverse. A copper alloy coin which is probably Indian. It has not been possible to positively identify this coin, but it is likely to be between 100 and 300 years old, brought back as a souvenir of the Raj. The coin is very worn. It has a diameter of 22.4mm and is 5.6mm thick. It weighs 16.6g.

A medieval silver coin; a double petard of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, Count of Flanders (1467 – 1477). It was minted in 1467 – 1474. The coin is hardly clipped but it quite worn. It has a diameter of 26.1mm and is 0.5mm thick. It weighs 2.6g. Silver double patards of the dukes of Burgandy, from their territories of Brabant and Flanders, were made legally current in England as equal to groats (i.e. fourpence) in a convention of 1469 between Edward IV and Charles the Bold. A post medieval copper alloy coin from India. Shailendra Bhandare of the Ashmolean Museum writes: 'The coin is a Paisa of Gwalior State, Gwalior Fort mint, struck in the name of the Mughal Emperor Muhammad Akbar II, during the reign of Maharaja Daulat Rao Scindia (1796-1825). Details of date etc are not seen due to the poor condition of the coin.' The coin has a diameter of 16.6mm and is 5.5mm thick. It weighs 8.6g. It is fairly common to find Indian coins in Britain, probably because they were brought here by people serving in the Empire in India.

The coin has broken into two pieces and been repaired. It is in fair condition. Number 5546 in Spink’s “Coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands” (2003).
