Copper alloy counterstamped coin. The coin is highly corroded and no part of the original design is visible. It is counterstamped VIII with a small H or M above and the second and third II appear to be interupted by a circular counterstamp. It is probably a 8 maravedis of Felipe III (1598-1621) of Spain, but countermarked later under Felipe IV's reign (1621-1665) as an 8 maravedis 'resellado' which means 'resealed' or 'restruck'. A copper alloy 'ship penny' jetton (reckoning counter) of unclear maker. The legend is very worn but appears fictitious. It depicts four fleur-de-lis in a lozenge on the obverse and a sailing ship on the reverse, it is likely to date to the later 16th century (1550-1600). See Mitchiner (1988) Jettons, Medalets and Tokens, Volume 1, numbers 1480 – 1485 for similar examples.

Post medieval Nuremberg copper-alloy jetton of the the 'Rose / orb' type (Mitchiner 1542ff.). The jetton has been pierced near the rim, at 3 o'clock on the reverse, uncertain on the obverse. The makers name is illegible and this type was made under several masters in the late 16th and early 17th centurys. The few letters that can be distinguished are in florid style, perhaps suggesting a date towards the start of this range.
