Medieval coin: Continental penny of Gui of Collemede, Bishops of Cambrai in France, dating to AD 1296-1306. Medieval English pennies were widely imitated on the continent and were known as crockards and pollards. A 'Crockard' is a penny with the bust crowned with flowers; a 'Pollard' is a coin without a crown or flowers. Cf Mayhew, NJ, 1982, Sterling Imitations of Edwardian Type, The Royal Numismatic Society, London, pp 56-60. The coin has been broken into two fragments.

A worn Continental Edwardian-type long-cross silver penny issued by Gaucher of Chatillon, count of Procein, France in the period AD1313-1322 at the Yves mint. Obverse is extremely worn but shows crowned head facing. Obverse reads [G]A[LCH]S COM[E]S PORC. Reverse shows long-cross with three pellets in each quarter. Reverse reads [MO]N/[E]TA/OVA/Y.VE showing broken annulet between Y and V. Die axis is 7 or 8 o'clock. Weight is 1.15g, diameter is 18.6mm, thickness is 0.8mm. See Wren, C.R., 1995. A Medieval silver coin; a continental sterling imitation (a crockard) of John II of Avesnes, count of Hainaut (1280-1304) and count of Holland (1299-1304), dating from AD1290 - 1300. The mint is Mons (now in present-day Belgium). For reference, see Mayhew number 34 (or 159-160) as cited in Withers (forthcoming). The coin has suffered some damage since deposition in the soil and is now bent. It is 19.2mm in diameter and 0.8mm thick. It weighs 1.37gm.

Grierson (1991) illustrates a very similar example of a later style of penny with a more refined bust of Floris V, minted in Dordrecht, dating from c.1285-96, on page 121, Fig.276.

A Continental Medieval silver sterling imitation of an Edwardian long-cross penny, of Gauchier of Châtillon (c.1260-1329), Constable of France, Count of Porcien and holder of the fief of Florennes (by right of his wife Isabelle of Rumigny, whom he married in 1313, until she died in 1322); minted at Yves, 1313-1322, Mayhew type 239.
