A copper alloy artefact, probably a coin of Medieval or Post Medieval date, about AD 1200 - 1500, probably of the Crusader Kingdom of Cyprus, maybe of James II dating from the late 15th century. One face bears a cross potent with a cross in each angle (the Jerusulem cross). The peripheral legend is illegible. The other face is possibly a rampant lion. The legend is again illegible, but may end GRAIA which would fit with a sizin such as that of James II (the Bastard), AD 1463 - 1473. The coin is 18.3mm in diameter and 1.4mm thick. It weighs 1.9g.

"I have examined an object reported found at "Darrington", West Yorkshire. The object is a piedfort or piéfort version of the coin-type known as the denier of the counts of Blois-Chartres. The reference to the coin is J. Duplessy, Les monnaies françaises féodales (2004) no. 585. This was the last of the anonymous Blois denier series (coins that do not name an individual count) and the only one of them for which there are known examples of piedforts, as several of this type have been recorded. The coin is anonymous, with a highly stylised obverse …

A medieval coin; a contemporary imitation of an Irish cut half penny of Henry III. The legends do not appear to match the known coins of the Dublin mint and imitations of this time are relatively common. The reverse may read [ ]OIN - NDE, with N ligatured to the D - in imitation of the ONLV - NDE element of genuine London issues. Imitations often use elements of more than one coin when creating designs. It has not been possible to find an exact parallel for this coin, but there are many variations of imitations known, and many only survive as single examples. The coin is 18.09mm long,…

A post medieval copper alloy coin from India. Shailendra Bhandare of the Ashmolean Museum writes: 'The coin is a Paisa of Gwalior State, Gwalior Fort mint, struck in the name of the Mughal Emperor Muhammad Akbar II, during the reign of Maharaja Daulat Rao Scindia (1796-1825). Details of date etc are not seen due to the poor condition of the coin.' The coin has a diameter of 16.6mm and is 5.5mm thick. It weighs 8.6g. It is fairly common to find Indian coins in Britain, probably because they were brought here by people serving in the Empire in India.
