Medieval french coin weight; circular copper alloy uniface coin weight with a design of a man on a horse. Per Withers’ book this is a weight for the franc a cheval which was issued in the reigns of Jean II and Charles V (1364-1380). The weight does have an inscription, although this is mostly illegible. The coin has a beaded border around both faces. One face has a short inscription in a small inner circle. There is another circle between the inner circle and the beaded border. The other face has a longer inscription arranged in four lines within a large inner circle. The coin is pierced with a small, circular hole near the edge, presumably to allow it to be suspended.
