A late medieval copper alloy English Jetton that has been reused as a brooch or dress fitting. A lozenge shaped plate of copper alloy has been riveted to the centre of the reverse of the jetton, allowing to be used as a hooked tag. Both ends of the plate are pointed and curled over to form a hook; one end is curled beneath and the other to the front. This reworked jetton fits with the well known tradition of converting coins into jewellery in the 13th and 14th centuries. The dolphin badge relates to the dauphine of Viennois, which became linked to the French crown with the accession to the throne of John the Good in 1349, later passing down the male line through the eldest son of the King.
