A very worn and torn late medieval Continental silver penny-sized coin (possibly denier, denaro etc) of unclear type. Not further defined. One side shows a cross with pellets in angles and the other side might show a monogram (possibly three uprights with a diagonal line between two of them).  (Surviving) length: 17.66 mm; width: 11.17 mm; thickness: 0.68 mm; weight: 0.42g

A medieval silver coin: a Anglo-Gallic hardi d'argent, probably Edward the Black Prince as Prince of Aquitaine, issued AD 1362 - 1371, Elias 208 (no mint letter at end of ovberse inscription. Ref: Elias 1984, 190-1. The coin is damaged, being slightly clipped and having a section of the edge missing between 12 and 4 o'clock on the obverse. It is 19.4mm long, 16.4mm wide and 0.6mm thick. It weighs 0.86gm.

British Museum Curatorial Report: "I have examined an object reported found at "Darrington", West Yorkshire. The object is a piedfort or piéfort version of the coin-type known as the denier of the counts of Blois-Chartres. The reference to the coin is J. Duplessy, Les monnaies françaises féodales (2004) no. 585. This was the last of the anonymous Blois denier series (coins that do not name an individual count) and the only one of them for which there are known examples of piedforts, as several of this type have been recorded.
