A silver late Medieval coin; a double petard of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy (1467-1477). The coin has a diameter of 26.8mm and is 0.8mm thick. It weighs 2.94g. Similar coins are recorded on the PAS database. In 1469 a monetary convention between Duke Charles and King Edward IV made the former's coinage in the Low Countries legal tender in England. In practice, only the double patard established itself in currency, with a formal valuation equal to the silver groat, i.e. fourpence. 1433-1477. Silver alloy, hammered 'Charles The Bold, Duke of Burgundy' Double Patard coin. Length 12.9mm, Width 9.8mm, Thickness 0.6mm, Weight 0.4g. Very small and less than a quarter of the orginal coin. Roughly triangular shape. Obverse: Extreme wear with the odd letter of the legend and one side of a probable shield of France just visible. Reverse: Extreme wear with probable terminal of a cross fleuretty and four letters from the legend visible. Some light clipping.
