A worn Continental Edwardian-type long-cross silver penny issued by Gaucher of Chatillon, count of Procein, France in the period AD1313-1322 at the Yves mint. Obverse is extremely worn but shows crowned head facing. Obverse reads [G]A[LCH]S COM[E]S PORC. Reverse shows long-cross with three pellets in each quarter. Reverse reads [MO]N/[E]TA/OVA/Y.VE showing broken annulet between Y and V. Die axis is 7 or 8 o'clock. Weight is 1.15g, diameter is 18.6mm, thickness is 0.8mm. See Wren, C.R., 1995. A Continental Medieval silver sterling imitation of an Edwardian long-cross penny, of Gauchier of Châtillon (c.1260-1329), Constable of France, Count of Porcien and holder of the fief of Florennes (by right of his wife Isabelle of Rumigny, whom he married in 1313, until she died in 1322); minted at Yves, 1313-1322, Mayhew type 239. An example in Copenhagen with M on reverse appears to be the closest parallel, see 239d. Measures 18mm, weighs 1.07g, die axis 9-10.
