An incomplete/fragmentary silver medieval double patard of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, cross fleuretty reverse, uncertain mint, AD 1467 - 1477. An agreement under Edward IV in 1469 confirmed the Low Countries coinage of Duke Charles as legal tender in England. In the late 15th and early 16th century, double patards of Charles the Bold were a part of the English currency and feature regularly in hoards alongside English groats as well as being recovered as single finds. Diameter: 21mm Weight: 0.82g

A copper alloy, French jetton, dating to the medieval period. The obverse depicts a heater-shield containing three fleur-de-lis’ and topped by a crown. The surrounding legend reads +AVE MARIA GRACIA (Hail Mary full of grace) and is marked by a cross pattee initial mark. The reverse depicts a long cross of three strands fleur-de-lis’ with a quatrefoil in the centre, enclosed by four arches. There is no reverse inscription. A parallel can be seen in Barnard, p118, plate VI, no.43.
