Copper alloy French jetton or reckoning counter, depicting the shield of France on the obverse, which dates it to c.1415-1437, struck in Tournai, probably after 1423 when King Charles VII of France (1422-1461) introduced the silver Blanc à la coronelle (coin). Mitchener (1988) illustrates a similar example on page 227, No.688. Jettons first appeared in England during the reign of Edward I (1271-1307) and carried on to the end of the reign of Richard II (1377-1399). A medieval French jetton, probably one of the stock jettons minted at Tournai during the reign of Charles VII (1422-1461). The jetton has a diameter of 26.9mm and is 1.1mm thick. It weighs 3.86g. It has been double struck and has a jumbled legend. For reference see Mitchiner's "Jetons, Medalets and Tokens", Vol. I Nos. 527-531.

A medieval French Jetton, 'IHS' type. This type of jetton, dating to the 15th century, has an obverse design consisting of the letters IHS (for Jesus) in black-letter script, and a reverse cross fleuretty, with the inscription 'Ave Maris Stella dei Mater' (taken from a popular liturgical hymn of the day) on both faces in Lombardic script.

Cast copper alloy jeton dating between 1418 and 1437, struck under Charles VII of France. Whilst still dauphin he established his seat of government at Bourges and struck jetons with the paschal lamb on. The legend basically means 'I am the lamb'. Mitchiner, no.553 (1998; Vol.1).
