A worn, incomplete and slightly bent 17th-century silver post-medieval 4 sols piece of Louis XIV dated 1677 AD. This coin has been pierced through the centre of the reverse face. The piercing means that the mint mark is difficult to discern, but it is likely to be a 'D', representing Lyon (cf. Krause & Mishler 2003 (17th century, 3rd edition), 218; KM# 232.2).

A worn 17th-century silver post-medieval 4 sols piece of Louis XIV dated 1676 AD. The mint director's privy mark (a laurel crown or wreath) visible above the obverse bust means that this coin was struck at the central, Parisian mint during the tenure of Jean Hindret (Krause & Mishler 2003 (17th century, 3rd edition), 209, 218; KM# 232.1). This coin has been bent twice after the manner of a love token.

A worn 17th-century silver post-medieval 4 sols piece of Louis XIV. The mint director's privy mark (a laurel crown or wreath) visible above the obverse bust suggests that this coin was struck at the central, Parisian mint during the tenure of Jean Hindret (Krause & Mishler 2003 (17th century, 3rd edition), 209, 218). The date on the reverse which is otherwise obscured, presumably due to an imperfection in the die, can therefore be confirmed as 1675.

Probably a silver 10 sols ('aux insignes') of Louis XIV of France, bent into a 'love token' The practice of bending coins out of shape and smoothing the coins surface and presenting them to others as a gesture of love was common from the late 17th century until the 19th century. They were often engraved with symbols of love or the initials of the sender and recipient.
