A medieval silver coin; a penny of Alexander III of Scotland (1249 – 1286), second coinage (1280 – 1286). The coin is in excellent condition. It has a diameter of 19.1mm and is 0.7mm thick. It weighs 1.4g. The four mullets each have 6 points, making it a 24 point coin. For reference see Spink’s coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands number 5055.

A medieval silver hammered coin; a Scottish penny of Alexander III, first coinage (1250-80AD). The obverse appears to be a type two. The moneyer is Wilam, and it was probably minted in Roxburgh. The coin measures 17.6mm diameter x 0.9mm, weighing 1.43g. See the Standard Catalogue of British coins volume two: coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands, number 5042.
