Medieval coin; Scottish silver penny of Alexander III (second coinage 1280-1286), John Baliol (1291-1296), Robert the Bruce (1306-1329), David II (1329-1371) or Robert II (1371-1390). Probably Alexander III from what can be seen of portrait & style. Incomplete, roughly 1/3rd of the coin broken off. Length (not quite diameter) 17.9mm, width 14.6mm, weight 0.71g.

Medieval Scottish coin; struck silver penny of Alexander III, second coinage, class Ma, dating to c.1280-1286. Mint uncertain but the total of 24 points on the reverse mullets may suggest the Berwick mint. Obv. Crowned profile bust of king left, with sceptre before bust ALEXANDER DEI GRA Rev. Long cross pattee which divides the legend. A six-pointed mullet in each quadrant. The flan is split, with one surface laminating away from the other, presumably a fault of the striking. Diameter 16.42mm, width 8.27mm, weight 0.72g.
