This is a Scottish hammered silver penny of Alexander III (1249-1286). This example is from the first coinage with a voided long cross on the reverse. The cross has a central pellet and a star to each quadrant. The obverse has the crowned profile bust of King facing left and holding a sceptre. The reverse legend is indistinct but is most likely to indicate that the moneyer is Tomas at Aberdeen. Overall, the coin is in poor condition with a damaged lower edge when viewed on the obverse.
