A Post Medieval copper alloy jetton,from Tournai, France (late 15th - 16th century). Obverse: Stereotypical African's head left with foliate pattern around. Obverse inscription: None. Reverse: Cross with a cinquefoil and central pellet in each quarter. Reverse inscription: Illegible. Dimensions: diameter: 22.64mm; weight: 1.31g. A medieval French Jetton, 'IHS' type. This type of jetton, dating to the 15th century, has an obverse design consisting of the letters IHS (for Jesus) in black-letter script, and a reverse cross fleuretty, with the inscription 'Ave Maris Stella dei Mater' (taken from a popular liturgical hymn of the day) on both faces in Lombardic script.

The token has a design imitating the silver pennies of Edward I and, as such, also has a punch mark to denote that it is not a coin. Obv. Crowned bust of king facing, within an inner circle. The outer circle contains a row of 18 pellets. No inscription Rev. Ornamented long cross fourchee with a lys in each quadrant. No inscription Diameter 19.54mm, weight 1.35g
