A medieval silver coin; a cut farthing of William I or Alexander II of Scotland minted in 1195 – 1235 (Short Cross and stars coinage phase A, B or C). The coin is 13.4mm long, 9mm wide and 0.9mm thick. It weighs 0.24g. For reference see “Coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands” by Spink / Seaby, numbers 5027 – 5034.

Cut farthing of William I of Scotland (1165-1214), extending posthumously to c.1230, part of his 3rd coinage (short cross), most likely the variety without mint name from the EI visible on the obverse. The reverse, hVE gives the moneyer, Hue. Full rev- +hVE:WALTER or similar. The coins without mint name probably date from c.1214 into Alexander III's reign in the 1230s.
