Cast unifaced lead token. The token is decorated with a six petalled flower overlaid by c.25 pellets apparently randomly spaced. The token is 26.1mm in diameter, 2.3mm thick and weighs 11.4grams.
Tokens with such simple designs are very easy to make and continued in use for a long period but those with flower designs are generally considered to date from the late medieval or eary post medieval period so a general date of 1400-1650 AD is given.

Post medieval token; cast lead trade token dated 1593. The obverse has ‘TC’ across the centre with narrow lines of running lozenges to top and bottom. These initials were probably of the issuers. The reverse has ‘1593’ across the centre with two back-to-back curlicues to top and bottom. The token has a patchy grey-white patina over its surface.

The reverse has ‘1599’ across the centre with broad lines of running lozenges to top and bottom. The token has a dark grey-brown patina over its surface.

Tokens have a variety of uses and so are hard to date closely. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally, they are therefore hard to date precisely but those with initials are thought to be Post Medieval in date (1500-1850 AD).
