A worn 17th-century silver post-medieval 4 sols piece of Louis XIV. The mint director's privy mark (a laurel crown or wreath) visible above the obverse bust suggests that this coin was struck at the central, Parisian mint during the tenure of Jean Hindret (Krause & Mishler 2003 (17th century, 3rd edition), 209, 218). The date on the reverse which is otherwise obscured, presumably due to an imperfection in the die, can therefore be confirmed as 1675.
