A copper-alloy 16th century biface coin weight produced in Antwerp by Cornelius Janssen and dated to 1583 AD. It is flat, square in shape measuring 15.33mm in length, 15.21mm in width, and 2.86g in weight. The cross motif of the reverse face of this weight probably indicates its usage for weighing Spanish or Portugese coinage, although it falls a little under the standard weights for both the Spanish escudo (3.38g) and the Portugese cruzado (3.5g). See Withers and Withers, 1995: pp. 44, 60, 71.

A corroded copper-alloy medieval Portuguese coin; a ceitil of Duarte I (1433 - 1438) minted in Lisbon. It is 21.3 mm in diameter and 0.7mm thick. It weighs 0.68gm. The coin is very thin and corroded probably because it was found on a beach. See C.M. Almeida do Amaral, Catalogo descritivo das moedas Portuguesas (Lisbon 1977); p.315, nos 958ff. Edward Besly comments that there are few ceitils from English find spots, though the ceitils of Duarte's successor Afonso V (1438-81) are very common finds all across S Wales.

A square, double-sided coin weight of Post-medieval date. This Low Countries weight appears to have been issued for a Flanders half lion coin. It was made at Antwerp, possibly by the maker 'KI' (see Withers and Withers 1995: 61), in 1576*. It measures 15.3mm long, 14mm wide and 1.6mm thick. It weighs 2.17g. The surfaces are very worn and corroded.

A copper alloy post-Medieval coin; a Scottish Bodle, probably of Charles II and James VII (1677-79). The Bodle appears during the reigns of Charles I, II, and James VII. Although the legend is illegible, the Thistle and crown over crossed sword and sceptre seem most like the Charles II and James VII issue. Measures 24.4mm x 25.4mm x 0.9mm, weighing 2.84g. For reference see Seaby 5630.

A copper alloy Medieval coin weight. It is a uniface round weight, bearing a figure on horseback riding right with a sword in hand. It is 14.5mm x 14.2mm x 2.9mm, and weighs 3.38g. This weight was probably French and made for a cheval of Jean II (1350-1364) or Charles V (1364-1380). The weight is without a legend. This weight is similar to an example in 'Identifying coin weights found in Britain' by P and B R Withers (p.32).

Cast copper alloy coin weight. A square double sided weight with a stamped, incuse crowned upper case H on the obverse and stamped incuse letters in three lines:D/V/XV(dot). Paul Withers kindly identified the weight as follows: This is a weight for a double henri d’or of Henri II of France (1547-59). This coin was issued at an official weight of 5 deniers and 17 grains. I suspect that under all the corrosion on the piece you may find that there are two dots after the XV, not just the obvious one. Mr Dieudonné, who wrote the almost impossible-to-follow book on the subject says th…

Medieval french coin weight; circular copper alloy uniface coin weight with a design of a man on a horse. Per Withers’ book this is a weight for the franc a cheval which was issued in the reigns of Jean II and Charles V (1364-1380). The weight does have an inscription, although this is mostly illegible. Quite worn. Diameter 14.4mm, thickness 2.8mm, weight 3.14g Ref: This weight is described and illustrated in Withers “Lions Ships and Angels” page 32. The franc a cheval is detailed on page 70.

Copper alloy coin, possibly a counterfeit of a French douzain of the later 16th century (Ed Besly pers comm). Or "it might be a sol parisis of Henri III (1551-1589) or Henri IV (1589-1610) of France. These coins have hollow crosses on the reverse, that are also quite short with fleurs-de-lis on the ends. The cross here is certainly hollow, but I am not sure if it is short or if it is just the corrosion taking over. It is the right size (c. 2cm) for this as well. The obverses have a crowned H with fleurs-de-lis around, but I cannot see anything on this" (Barrie Cook pers comm).

Worn Scottish copper Bodle, or possibly a Turner. Only a partial inscription 'HIB.R' is visible on the obverse. A thistle with a large head and leaves is visible on the reverse. Probably of Charles I, but could also be of Charles II or William II, giving a date range of 1642 to 1697.

Japanese copper alloy mon, minted after 1668. This is a 'new Kan'ei' coin, based on the legs of the lefthand character (they do not meet at the base). There is a hole in the flan; this is possibly the result of a flaw in the casting of the coin.
