A conical lead weight, possibly used as a spindle whorl or similar object of uncertain date. It is oval in section with a large central circular aperture. This spindle whorl measures 21.29mm in diameter, 17.37mm in height, 37.01g in weight. There is a similar example from Suffolk recorded on the PAS database (SF-8823E0). This is a relatively simple cast lead spindle whorl that could be of any date from the Roman period onwards.

Lead token, octagonal in plan, with P and symbol, or another P with rays, above date of 1676 on reverse. The obverse is blank. The letters probably refer to the initials of the issuer. The symbol looks like a scythe and may refer to the work that was being carried out. Landowners would pay casual workers for an amount of work done, and then at the end of the season, these tokens would be redeemed for coin of the realm. Lead tokens were issued at this time to deal with the shortfall when copper and brass tokens ceased to be produced in 1672, as they were banned when regal copper coinag…

A Post-Medieval lead token. The object is folded in two places, making the design difficult to decifer. One face may possibly have a cross in its centre, with a border around the outside containing an unclear design, or possibly even a legend. The other face is similar, but possibly with a geometric, flower-like design in its centre. Similar tokens can be seen in Egan (2005, p.168, fig.164) particularly no's: 892, 894, 895 & 896, which are all dated to the later 16th century, suggesting a similar date for this example. Diameter: 16.96mm, Thickness: 1.91mm, Weight: 2.8g

A late Medieval lead token. There is a raised cross on one face, with a pellet in each quarter - echoing the long cross coinage of an earlier date. There is perhaps the remains of some further detail on the other face, but this is too worn to make out. The object bears strong similarities to a token illustrated in Fletcher (2005, p.40), which is suggested to be of 15th century date and is one of a series from this period that appear to have been strongly influenced by contemporary coin designs. The illustrated example is decorated with a cross formed from two sets of parallel lines, w…
