A complete silver plated copper-alloy medieval contemporary copy of a penny of Edward I or II, dating to the period AD 1279-1344. Copying uncertain class and mint. Pierced with three circular holes in a triangular arrangement in the centre. See PAS records: HAMP-AAB723, HAMP-587C71 and HAMP-8CBF82 for a finer contemporary copies of Edwardian pennies. These copies seem uncommon compared to those of earlier monarchs. It is unclear which type provided the original prototype for the present example as the legends are heavily blundered and the bust is relatively crude.
