Medieval coin; Struck silver groat of Edward III, fourth coinage, pre-treaty series, series G, dated to 1356-1361. Initial mark is of Cross 3 type. All Ns are unbarred. Legends have annulet stops. The legend in the inner ring starts in the opposite quadrant from the legend in the outer ring. Obv. Crowned bust of king, facing EDWARD [D G] REX.ANGL Z FRANC.D HYB Rev. Long cross pattee dividing the legends. Three pellets in each quadrant POSVI/.DEV[M].A/DIVTOR/EM.MEV//CIVI/TAS/LON/DON Diameter 27.3mm, thickness 0.8mm, weight 4.42g Ref: North, vol II, pg 53, number 1194

A silver coin; a penny of Edward III (1327 – 1377), Pre-Treaty coinage (1351 – 1361) probably series D (1352 – 1353). The coin is badly struck, possibly double struck, and the obverse is very unclear. One side has certainly been struck twice in slightly different positions. The coin was minted in York and is probably North number 1157.

A complete Irish Medieval silver penny of Edward I, class 1b, c. 1279-1284. Dublin mint. Alan Smith kindly comments as follows: '... I think there may be a wrong image on here. As far I can see the image is definately a solid long cross Irish Edward 1st penny (second coinage) class 1b, the Obverse legend reads .EDW.R. / ANGL'D / NS.hYB' (unusually with a bar over the "S" and possibly a further mark at the end of the legend) The reverse reads CIVI / TAS / DUBL / INIE so definately Dublin mint............ as Seaby 6247 I believe'.
