Treasure reference number: 2007 T252. 8 silver hammered pennies and 2 silver cut half pennies were discovered in an undefined but ‘relatively small’ area according to the finder. The earliest coin is a cut half penny of Henry II and the latest is a silver halfpenny of Henry IV. The majority of the coins fall between these two dates and represent Henry III, Edward I and Edward III. All coins present are official English issues of the mid and late medieval period and will thus consist of silver of the sterling standard, i.e. 92.5% fine metal. A silver groat of Edward III, mint of London. The obverse features a forward facing bust with fleurs on the crown cusps and the inscription reads: EDW[---].ANGL.FRANC.D[---] HYB. The reverse has a long cross with three pellets in each angle. The legend reads: POSVI DEUM ADIVTOREM MEV/CIVITAS LONDON. Annulet stops on the obverse, the open C in CIVITAS, lombardic M and reversely barred roman N indicate that this is a series C, standard type F (English Hammered Coinage Volume 2 by J.J.North, p.50). The coin is slightly worn, and has been clipped.

Silver Penny of Edward I struck at Kingston upon Hull between 1299 and 1301. The coin is relatively heavy for an Edwardian Sterling and has been double struck. The style of the crown suggests Class 9b2 according to Withers which is a further subdivision of the North class 9b (1037/1).
