Object type: RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Isle of Wight
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete Medieval to post-Medieval copper-alloy circular ring (1200-1800).
Similar rings are often suggested to be Medieval or post-Medieval harness rings (Geake, 2001, Finds Recording Guide, page 74), dating from 1200-1800, though they are typically undiagnostic. Further, Geake (ibid., 74) suggests that the broadly hexagonal cross-section which this ring possesses probably indicates a Medieval date; it is bevelled externally and internally at the edge.
This ring is shiny and green with traces of a slightly darker green patina. It has faint file marks.
