At the centre there are two sub-square holes with two smaller circular holes nearby. There are also two incomplete holes at one end. On the underside, close to the break, there is a circular hole, 8.0mm in diameter and 4.7mm in depth. The object is green and corroded with patches of a dark brown patina. The break is abraded. A complete lead alloy spindle whorl of Unknown date (c. 43-c. 1800). The spindle whorl is circular in plan and is hemi-spherical, domed at the top and flat on the underside. A central hole has parallel sides and is 8.0mm in diameter. This spindle whorl is greyish buff with a coarse surface. Diameter: 23.5mm; thickness: 8.0m. Weight: 24.27g. Plain spindle whorls and weights were cast locally in lead from the Roman period onwards and are hard to date precisely although most are late Medieval or post-Medieval.
