A fragment of lead alloy casting waste of uncertain date. The object is sub-oval in plan and is flat. One surface is smooth and worn while the opposite face has a raised ridge, possibly a casting seem. Dimensions: 30mm in length, 25mm in width, 5mm thick, 14.4g Casting waste is very hard to date in isolation. As casting waste represents re-usable metal, it was often retained and regularly turns up in founder's hoards. It can however also be found in isolation. The object has a dark grey patina suggesting a post-medieval date is probable.

A probable piece of casting waste of uncertain date. The object is U-shaped in plan and irregular in cross section. One face is relatively flat and smooth while the opposite face is of varying thickness. Adhering to the object is a black carbon deposit often found on the feet of cooking vessels. It is possible that this object is a medieval cooking vessel foot such as LVPL-142D8A or LVPL-4CD149 however due to the uneven thickness this is questionable. Casting waste is very hard to date in isolation. As casting waste represents re-usable metal, it was often retained and regularly…

An undiagnostic lead alloy rectangular object, possibly an off-cut from metal working, of uncertain date and function. The object is rectangular in plan with rounded edges and is rectangular in cross-section. It is undecorated on each face. The object has a light white patina which suggests it is likely to date to the medieval period or earlier. However due to the absence of diagnostic features this remains uncertain. The object is undecorated and has a corroded light green surface. At the base of the object is a small patch of adhering black material, possibly carbon, with iron staining below. Casting waste is very hard to date in isolation. They are waste products which form at the top of a two-piece clay mould when the moulten metal has filled the object-shaped void below.
