A copper alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object is U-shaped in plan with zoomorphic duck or bird terminals. Extending down from the centre of the object is a circular-sectioned shaft, measuring 3mm thick, which appears to be hollow and is soil filled. The birds are each identical with open mouths and rounded beaks and circular annulet eyes. At the top of each head is an undulating raised ridge. The back of the bird's heads appears to have once joined each other at this ridge. Surrounding the eyes the surface is stained red, this may possibly be the remains of degra…

A copper alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object consists of a long arm which is oval in cross-section. At one end the arm tapers in width to form an integral pointed oval terminal. The terminal is sub-triangular in cross-section with one flat face. At the opposite end of the object is a bifurcated terminal which is incomplete. The purpose of each terminal is unclear. Projecting from the centre of the object is a sub-rectangular tab, one end of which tapers in width and curls inwards on itself. One end of this may be incomplete however it is difficult to be certain.…

Dimension: 25mm in diameter, 4mm thick, 4.0g KENT-62AB1A notes that: Objects of this shape are quite common finds from Roman contexts and are usually interpreted as earrings (Allison-Jones (1989), would classify these as Type 1 common and suggest they are common throughout the roman period. It should be noted that similar objects have however also been found from Early-Medieval contex…

A probable piece of casting waste of uncertain date. The object is U-shaped in plan and irregular in cross section. One face is relatively flat and smooth while the opposite face is of varying thickness. Adhering to the object is a black carbon deposit often found on the feet of cooking vessels. It is possible that this object is a medieval cooking vessel foot such as LVPL-142D8A or LVPL-4CD149 however due to the uneven thickness this is questionable. Casting waste is very hard to date in isolation. As casting waste represents re-usable metal, it was often retained and regularly…

An incomplete copper alloy toggle of uncertain date. The object is in two halves following a recent break, probably due to the plough. The upper half of the object has a cylindrical 'head' each end of which is flattened. Between the central rounded, thickened element and the flattened ends the object narrows measuring 7mm thick forming a 'dumbell-like' shape. From the centre of the 'head' the object narrows and tapers in width curving downwards and terminating with a break. The arching of the object mirrors the form of a Roman dolphin brooch. A copper alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object consists of a central solid rod with striations on its outer surface. Wrapped around the central rod is an indistinct rounded piece of copper alloy which may be zoomorphic in nature or perhaps in the form of hands clasping the rod. Examined from one angle the clasping copper alloy appears to be a pig, and a frog from another angle while from the front of the object it appears to be clasped hands.
