The holes have been drilled and the sides have been organised in the standard 'seven' system, where the total of the holes on opposing sides add up to seven. 1 is opposite 6, 2 opposite 5 and 3 opposite 4. Dice are frequently found and can be of any date from the Roman period through to the Post Medieval period (AD 43 to AD 1700). It has been suggested that apart from their usual role in games of chance, the clergy may have occasionally used them as they could identify 56 different virtues, one for eac…

A copper alloy object for which neither a function nor a date can be ascertained. The object looks superficially like a fragment of the bow of a Roman brooch. However, the fragment is asymmetrical unlike any Roman brooches. The object consists of a arched triangular section 'bow' which expands and becomes trapezoidal in section. At one end of the 'bow' there is a horizontal notch. This separates the 'bow' in two. One section is rounded off and appears deliberately finished. The other section appears to be broken. At the other end of the 'bow', there are two extension protruding at righ…

A uneven 'dribble' of lead with a flat underside. The upper surface has a moulded simplistic human figurine. In the area where the genitalia should be, there is a circular perforation. Some sort of attachment or handle may have been threaded through this perforation. It is possible that it may have been used as a stamp to create an impression in clay etc. It is very difficult to date such an object.

Ceramic, conical object. It possesses a central perforation measuring 10mm in diameter and a flat bottom. Dr Kevin Leahy writes: it is most unlikely that this object was, as described, a 'Loom weight' and it was probably a spindle whorl. Dating is impossible on the surviving evidence.
