Treasure Case 2012 T338: Gold Droplet from Brailes, Warwickshire.
Casting waste, comprising a complete amorphous droplet of gold or gold alloy. The droplet measures 14.77mm long, 8.37mm wide and 6.71mm thick, weighing 5.1g.
Iron Age coins have been recovered from the same farm (Treasure Case 2012 T726), and it has been suggested that gold such as this may have been connected with Iron Age gold working, such as coin production or recycling. However, a similar piece (2004 T408) was determined to be undiagnostic and undatable following metal analysis.

A possible fragment of copper alloy casting waste. The waste is a possible sprue or jet from a moulded object. The sprue has a irregular head which as an integral conical beneath, which vaguely resembles a stud. The head and stud elements have an uneven surface and abraded edges. There are traces of a mid green patina. It measures 25.39mm long, 16.93mm wide and weighs 10.1g.
The object is too irregular to be a purposeful object, and the surface with the single stem perhaps suggests it may be a sprue rather than a stud. The surface is abraded and does not have a heavy patina which i…

REPORT FOR HM CORONER
Treasure case 2006 T521: Kingsbury, Warks.
Five small irregular gold lumps of indeterminate age or function.
Total weight 33.77g
Non-destructive surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated that the gold content is approximately 99%.
In view of the undiagnostic nature of the lumps it is my opinion that they cannot be demonstrated to be Treasure under the terms of the 1996 Treasure Act.

The waste is in the form of a sub-rectangular block. The edges are slightly irregular, but appear to have cooled within a rectangular 'frame'. One surface appears to have cooled and was open to the air as the surface is irregular and 'bubbly'. There is a small patch of iron staining. The other face is relatively flat except for a sub-oval shaped indentation, which is concave in profile. This indentation has mainly smooth sides, except for patches where, presumably the molten material has not filled the void completely.
