Object type: CASTING WASTE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Treasure reference 2017 T1058: an globule of solidified molten casting waste. The object is irregular in form and section with no identifying features. The surface isdull silver in colour with traces of copper corrosion. In the absence of metallurgical analysis it is unclear as to whether the metal is silver or another white metal such as tin. Conclusion Due to the undiagnostic nature of the find, it cannot be securely dated as being over 300 years old and as such would appear to fall outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.

Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Treasure reference number 2017 T1015: a gold band of unknown date. The band is rectangular in section and appears once to have been oval in plan, perhaps forming a ferrule or fitting from an object such as a pendant or a knife. The hoop is no longer a neat oval, but has been bent inwards on either side in the middle. The length of the ferrule is 32mm and the maximum width is 13mm. The hoop measures 3mm in width and 2.2mm in thickness, It is 2.16g in weight. The band is of indeterminate date but in the balance of probabilities is over 300 years old and consequently, in terms of age and…

A fragment of a copper alloy unidentified object. The item has a short section of a curved flat frame, at the base of which is an incomplete triangular panel. Object type: INTAGLIO
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An intaglio, possibly of Roman date. The intaglio is plano-convex and has a shallow rim around the base which indicates that it was once contained within a setting. The intaglio is translucent but has a yellow tint to it, possibly indicating that it is made of glass. The flat circular face of the intaglio has an uncertain motif carved into it. This item was discovered on the Romano-British settlement at Nettleton Top (Willis 2013), however the size, form, and motif of the intaglio is rather unusual for Roman. The date is therefore unknown at present. Willis, S. 2013. The Roman Roadsi…

Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper-alloy arrowhead with integral tang. The arrowhead is lozenge in section with a circular mid-rib. The socket is also circular in section, from which extends a worn and incomplete tang. There are no parallels for this item in the British, French, Low Countries and German Bronze Age. However, it does resemble prehistoric arrowheads from Greece dating c. 1000-800 BC. It is possible, therefore, that this is an import, but at what period is very difficult to say.

An incomplete iron object, possibly a key or a handle from a vessel. The item has a swollen shank measuring 101mm in length, and tapering from 13mm x 12mm in section in the middle to circa 9mm x 8mm at either end. One end appears to be incomplete; the other has two 90 degree turns - upwards and then outwards. The upwards part of the shank is rectangular in section and tapers from 1mm in width to circa 8mm in width. In thickness it is circa 7mm. The outwards 90 degree turn is offset from the shank. This stretch of the item is circular in section, and broken shortly after. It is possib…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Fragment of lead panel. The item is now roughly triangular in plan and somewhat 'crumpled'. All sides are incomplete; two are relatively neat and appear to have been cut with a knife. Additional cut marks close to these sides, set on the same alignment, are also visible. The third side has been rolled over at the top, but this too has been cut. A moulded line decorates one corner of the panel on what appears to be the exterior. The function of this object is unclear, though the thickness suggests that it was once part of a fairly large item, such as a vessel or tank. Similarly, the…

Fragment of a copper-alloy unidentified object. The item is roughly 'L-shaped', with a vertical stem that is twice the width as the horizontal stem. The vertical stem has a horizontal 'step' extending half the way into the object. This step has the same patina as the rest of the object, and its smoothness suggests that it is an original feature. Nor are any other breaks visible on the item, other than the uppermost part of the vertical stem. The item is rectangular in section, and undecorated.

Fragment of an unidentified object. The item comprises a rectangular shank, broken at one end, and which splits into two narrower and thinner arms at the other end. The broken end is rectangular in section, and the break is worn and patinated. The shank thins out at the split-end. One arm is entirely missing, and only a small portion of the other survives. This is flat, narrow, and bent to 90 degrees. A small crack is seen on the surface where it bends backwards, perhaps suggesting that the bend is damage rather than an original feature. The item may well be Middle Saxon in date gi…
