A complete lead-alloy weight dating from the medieval to Post Medieval periods (1100-1800AD). The object is circular in plan and has been pierced which shows some signs of wear from being suspended. The back of the object is smooth but the upper surface appears to be decorated with randomly placed pellets. Although it is possible that this is just a result of the casting. It is unlikely that this was used as a spindle whorl since the off-set piercing would cause the spindle to spin unevenly. It is more likely to be some form of hanging weight, or net weight. A hole has been punched through the apex to facilitate suspension and this shows signs of wear. Weights of this type are not completely understood and it could have been used for a variety of tasks. A lead zoomorphic figurine of unknown date. The object is in the shape of a dolphin with an arched back, a well-defined lip and tail. The remains of a casting seam is visible on the base. The base has a mould seam and possible remains of a single attachment point which may have been used to fit the figure to a stand or mount. The moulded lead retains some detail on the tail, eyes and mouth. The lead has a whitish-grey patina. The date of the object is unknown and could be Roman to modern in date. Folded strip of lead of unknown date and function.Broadly rectangular strip of thin (c.1.5mm) lead sheet, tightly rolled into a neat tube and then squashed. The strip has been rolled around its circumference at least twice; one end appears to have been crimped. No attempt has been made to open the roll. Length:32.5mm; width: 11.2mm; thickness: 6.2mm; weight: 11.3g Two very similar examples have been recorded on the database, both believed to be curse tablets - see NLM-6CECC7 and NLM-7C6EA5.
