The band of the ring is thin and narrows at the back, its widest point at the bezel. The bezel is oval in shape and is missing its setting. The shoulders of the ring feature wire filigree decoration, the ends of which spiral inwards. These are not uniform. Both the band and the bezel of the ring are bent and distorted.
Dimensions: length: 19.8mm, width: 9.7mm, thickness (of band): 0.5mm, weight: 3.01g
Discussion: A gold finger ring of similar shape and with similar dimensions on the database which is Roman in date (HAMP-2B06D9) is currently going through the treasure process (Treasure case tracking number: 2019T142).
Conclusion: As the object is likely to be over 300 years old and contains more than 10% precious metal, it fulfils the requirements of the Treasure Act. 214712019T8853ESS2019-08-28T00:00:00Z2019-09-12T16:16:53Z2023-09-08T11:24:12Z3.01PAS5D7A6165001E7B0.59.719.8123102141425196871948419501EssexMaldonDengieTL990151.672512670.8765818710ESS-629104Gold10892IncompleteROMANx41218EARLY MEDIEVALx41022Metal detectorReturned to finder after being disclaimed as Treasure2019T885.jpg1161221images/lisapittjones/EasternCertain12023-09-08T10:24:13.017ZEssex1CountyStruck or hammeredUNKNOWN1Metal detectorESSE90B0B.jpg19687From finder1198431UN5.2DistrictCertain4ESS1979523.7Kelvedon16.13Braintree106272019-08-22T15:31:36ZReturned to finderEasternCirca

Description: A gold hoop probably dating to the post-medieval period, almost certainly modern. The hoop is circular in shape and is formed from a single gold wire that has been twisted along its length. There is a small crimp visible, where the wire has been joined.
Dimensions: The diameter is 9.2mm and it weighs 0.2g.
Discussion: If a ring, this is very small when compared, for example with NMS-4AFCF9. Other examples of twisted wire rings are made of two interwoven strands, such as LON-031583.
Conclusion: In terms of precious metal content, this artefact qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. However, there is nothing which is diagnostic of date. Although the ring meets the precious metal requirements of the Treasure Act 1996, a pre-1719 date cannot be established beyond doubt and therefore it is not subject to the treasure process.

Cast copper-alloy item of uncertain age and function. The item is sub-rectangular with a raised (now broken) rectangular sectioned shaft rising from the centre. One side of the rectangular portion appears to be moulded in the design of a human foot, with distinct lines denoting toes. The opposite side is worn and partially broken, so it is not known whether this moulding was also present here, though this side is now also thinner.
There are moulded ridges positioned diagonaly toward the front of the foot and at the base of the shaft. The shaft itself points slightly away from the foot. This directionality and the spur protruding on the other side of the shaft are suggestive of some sort of stand or vessel leg. If this is the case, this item was likely one of a set of 3 or more.
The patina is worn and the colour is bright green.

Copper-alloy face-shaped badge or mount of unknown date.
The artefact takes the form of a woman's face in profile, and was likely made by pressing copper-alloy sheet. The features of the face, including the chin, nose, eyes and hair are visible. There is some damage, especially to the top and back of the head.
The underside is plain, concave and features two thin lugs situated close together. These were used to attach the badge or mount.
