Object type: RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: West Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of a, cast copper alloy, ring, possibly a bracelet or armlet of Bronze Age date, 2000-900 BC. The fragment is part of a circumferal ring. The breaks in the ring are old, being quite worn and corroded. In cross section the ring is a pointed oval. There is no surface decoration on the piece. The surface is patinated red/green. As the object is incomplete it is difficult to be certain on its date or function, the innumerable uses for rings of all sizes makes them difficult to classify.

An incomplete, copper alloy, chisel, possibly Bronze Age - Medieval in date, 2000BC - AD.1100. The object is a single cast chisel with a flat bladed terminal that widens towards the middle of the piece before tapering down to a point. The point is likely the tang of the object to be inserted into a wooden handle. There is no decoration on the object and it has an even, green, patina. Small chisels and tools of this type were used for an extensive period of time, not simply in the bronze age, but also in later periods for jewellery making and fine work. As such dating the object is dif…

Object type: POT BOILER
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: West Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A collection of eight fire-cracked flint nodules. The flint is unworked and has a cracked and broken surface caused by exposure to intense heat. Fire cracked flints were for a long time attributed to being pot boilers; however, the fact that flint shatters into sharp shards has made this theory more questionable. It is suggested that the flints that have been cracked in this way were used as fire surrounds and have fractured due to repeated heating and cooling in this environment.
