A cast lead object with inlaid decorative wire of uncertain date, probably a weight or gaming piece.
Description It is rectangular in form and section and with inlaid decoration on the front face. This comprises an S-shaped wavy line running down the centre of each wide face which comprises inlaid iron(?) wire.
Measurements: 17.30mm long, 12.3mm wide, 7.09mm thick and 9.76g in weight.

An incomplete cast lead weight of uncertain date (AD 43-1600).
Description: The weight is square section from the base, then tapers to the top in a wedge shape, each side is slightly dished perhaps due to damage or an inteded casting choice. At the apex is a suspension hole. The weight is patinated grey-white.
Measurements: 82.26mm high, 47.35mm wide, 20.6mm thick and 450g in weight
Discussion: Weights were cast locally in lead from the Roman period onwards for a wide variety of uses and are hard to date precisely. Contextual evidence means a Roman date is possible but not assured.

A cast lead probable weight of uncertain date.
Description: The weight is a roughly conical shape although irregularly formed. The apex and base are both uneven and have taken damage obscure detail such as possible iron loop for suspension. The side has a large scar also showing unpatinated inner surface.
Measurements: 23.72mm high, 16.32mm in diameter and 19.56g in weight.
Discussion: The object is relatively simple and dating of such weights is difficult if the object had an iron suspension loop a roman date could be suggested, in this case no loop is evidence, iron or othe…
