56 pieces of burnt clay of total weight 800 grams, possibly from an oven of uncertain date. The clay is amorphous with only a few voids from organic inclusions or imprints as one sees on daub. There is no evidence of layering as one might expect in a kiln, furnace or cob. Occasional small rounded iron stone inclusions and very small chalk or limestone inclusions almost certainly reflect natural inclusons in the clay rather than temper. One fragment of burnt clay which is probably a piece of daub. Orangey-pink external layer with buff areas. Sand inclusions, c.5% of total and occasional soft orange inclusions, fired daub or plaster. Irregular shape with a shallow C shaped groove, probably an impression from the wattle to which this would have been stuck. 13.97 grams. Such material is hard to date out of context and could be Iron Age - Post Medieval but given other material found near by it is probably Roman.
