A cast copper alloy fragment of uncertain function and date. The fragment most resembles a small multi-platformed terret ring / harness ring of later Iron Age or early Roman date (50 BC - AD 200). It is most likely to be a mis-cast example and possibly never finished for functional use. The fitting is formed with a sub-triangular incomplete ring which expands to form two oval shaped platformed projections. One of these projections has a length or rectangular sectioned iron embedded within. Both platforms have small beaded collars around their external edge. Both external edges of the…

A small irregular lozenge / rhomboid shaped stone with hollowed oval shaped depression of uncertain date and function. The stone is a very coarse sandstone which has weathered to a smooth mid prupleish brown colour. The exterior surfaces are all flat - the upper edge has an oval shaped dished hole cut into its surface - the exact function of which is unknown. The hole measures - 26.5mm length, 21.4mm width and is 10.7mm deep. The edges of the hole are smooth and there is no evidence of faceting or drilling. The base of the hole is also smooth and again there are no 'modern' tool marks…

A large lead alloy spill of lead alloy of uncertain date or function - but most probably being of 17th century date and spill from casting - potentially lead alloy musket balls. The irregular splatter of lead measures 22cm length 18cm width and is 8cm high. It weighs approximately 6 kilograms. The upper side of the spill is flat and smooth whilst the underside is formed of tiny rivelets conjoined together. The area is well known for a 17th century / civil war seige - although the spill could be from building work / guttering water pipes of a similar or later period

Cast copper alloy ring of probable Roman - Modern date (50 - 1800). The ring is circular in plan and lentoid (hexagonal) in cross section. There are traces of irregular file marks on several surfaces. There is no obvious cast or incised decoration present. A slight thickening of the ring is present on one edge - this maybe remains of a casting jet. The ring is oval in shape due to distortion and has wear facets on internal surfaces from use. The ring is a dark - mid greenish grey colour with a well developed patina which covers all surfaces. The patination of the metal would suggest a…

An incomplete piece of copper alloy (bronze) casting waste of uncertain date; most probably Roman (AD50-350). However, due to the lack of context and the continuation of casting styles this artefact could be dated from Iron Age - Medieval period (c. 800 BC - AD 1500). This fragment is from the neck (funnel / well) of a composite probably two part mould. The casting waste is broadly dished in shape with the remains of two oval jets emanating from the lower part. Both of these jets have been cut horizontally with a pair of shears or crimpers rather than being cut with a knife or broken …

A heavily eroded copper alloy bar which tapers at both ends. It is rectangular in plan and cross section. The surface is lost through abrasion and corrosion; it originally had a thick mid green coloured surface patina which is now almost completely lost. Due to condition a direct parallel has not been found. It is likely to be of prehistoric - medieval date (100 BC - AD 1400). The bar measures 50.4mm width, 7.9mm width is 3.4mm thick at the break and weighs 15.48 grams
