A cast lead or lead alloy spindle whorl of Roman to Post Medieval date (AD1 - 1650), most probably later medieval (AD1150-1600). In plan the spindle whorl is sub-circular and in profile is bi-convex. There is a central sub-circular perforation which measures 8.51mm in diameter. The perforation is irregular in shape possibly due to wear. One face of the whorl has a raised circumferential rib. There is also the remains of raised ribs and possibly pellets as seen on other examples, such as (HESH-4FCB15) discovered in Cheshire East. Although the decoration on this example is now very w…

A complete lead weight, of Roman to Post Medieval date (AD 43 - 1900). The weight is tear dropped shaped in plan and both faces of the weight are flat. The weight is undecorated on both faces. The weight is complete and has a perforated rectangular suspension hole through the top where it thins to a tip, this measures 4.35mm in length and 2.59 mm in width. The lead is a light whitish-grey colour. These weights are not yet completely understood. A complete cast lead or lead alloy spindle whorl of Roman to Post Medieval date (AD 43 - 1650). In plan the spindle whorl is sub-circular. The upper surface comprises of ten ribs that emanate from the central perforation. In between each rib is a deep groove. This gives the appearance of a series of triangles when you view the spindle whorl in profile. The central perforation measures 6.mm in diameter. An incomplete cast lead alloy zoomorphic mount or figurine in the form of a stylised fish or dolphin. The figure consists of the head facing right with a slightly rounded open mouth. The upper part of the jaw is thicker and more prominent than the lower half. The figure has a large eye consisting of an oval shaped pellet set in an oval shaped groove. A stone spindle whorl probably dating to the later prehistoric to later post medieval date (3000 BC - AD 1700) made of a course sandstone. It is circular in plan and sub-rectangular in cross-section. The object has a regular hour glass shaped pierced hole through the whorl and this is set slightly off centre. The shape of this hole would suggest that it has been achieved by drilling from each side. The object has an even mid-brown patina.
