A fragment of copper-alloy of unknown date and function. This fragment has a sub-square cross-section, both the width and thickness measuring approximately 3.6mm. It weighs 1.18g and has a curved length of 15.9mm. Both breaks are roughly transverse, one a little more diagonally angled than the other, with fairly unabraded surfaces. Use of a rim chart indicated that this fragment probably represents about 10% of the circumference of a 50.0mm diameter circular loop, if the fragment originally contined to curve on the same arcing alignment, which is uncertain.
Discussion: This fragment i…

A fragment of gilt copper-alloy from an uncertain artefact type. This fragment weighs 5.09g. It appears to be from the possible corner of the artefact, a once flat and now slightly bent piece of metal that has a 'V' shape. The external angle is c.80 degrees and the internal angle is slightly less than 70 degrees. The fragment has a width at a transverse worn irregular break of 13.2mm and 12.2mm at the worn irregular diagonal break. Both the internal and external edge to the corner is curved and the fragment has a width measurement of 17.7mm across this axis. The fragment has a smooth …

An unidentified artefact made from copper-alloy of uncertain date. This artefact might possibly be a chisel of Bronze Age date, compare with the items recorded in PAS records: BERK-4008DB, SUR-6751DB, WAW-CEC22C and SUR-E27EB1.
This item weighs 2.96g. One end consists of a love-heart shaped end. This has a maximum width of 17.4mm and thickness at the end of 1.4mm. There are two convexly rounded parts to the end that are separated by a concavely round-based V-shaped notch. The love-heart shape tapers towards the middle of the object to a width of 5.3mm, over a length of c.20.6mm. …

A lead weight or gaming piece of uncertain date. This artefact is sub-circular in shape with a maximum diameter of 23.1mm. The cross-section is sub-oval to sub-rectangular with flattened convex surfaces and rounded convex edges. One surface appears to have been plain, undecorated and relatively flat. However, pitted areas of surface damage are now present. The opposing surface has moulded relief decoration. This decoration is unclear, however study with use of a raking light suggests that the design may be an image of Britannia seated left, with shield leaning against her to the lower…

One, or more probably two artefacts of uncertain function that most probably date to the 18th century AD or more recent. This item weighs 7.24g and appears to be two squashed loops fixed together, side by side, at one end.
The two loops are formed from lengths of copper-alloy that have a 'D' shaped cross-section. The strips maintain a width of 5.1mm and thickness of c.1.7mm. The strips of copper-alloy have transverse concave curves at the mid point along the length bringing the flat surface of each in towards itself. The terminal ends also curve inwards. It is possible, that it w…

An unidentified lead or lead-alloy artefact of uncertain date. It is not certain whether this item is complete or a component part of something larger.
The object has a sub-circular shape due to slight damage around the circumference. The maximum diameter is 18.3mm and it weighs 10.09g (0.36oz). The edge of the object is convexly curved and has a thickness of 4.6mm.
Approximately 3.3mm in from the edge, the disc increases in thickness on both surfaces. This increase in thickness forms a shallow domed circle of c.12.3mm diameter on one side and a slightly more angled, upper corne…

A fragment of sheet gold from an unidentified artefact of unknown date. This fragment has a weight of 2.29g, it is bent and broken though to what extent is uncertain. The sheet metal has a thickness of 0.4mm, maximum incomplete length of 54.4mm and maximum width of c.15.9mm. The strip of metal varies in width along its length and appears to probably have had a partially curved orientation on the single plane. The metal is bent in all directions and this appears to be the result of damage rather than design. Both ends of the strip have irregular terminals indicative of a break rather t…

A fragment of copper-alloy probably of Medieval to Post-Medieval date. This fragment weighs 5.05g. It measures an incomplete width of 21.0mm with an incomplete height of 21.2mm and maximum thickness of 2.2mm. The rim would have turned outwards slightly at the top of the object. The inner edge is smooth and undecorated. The outer surface has a groove the runs parallel to and is set 4.6mm down from the top of the artefact's rim. Use of a rim chart indicates that the edge of the artefact rim would have had a diameter of approximately 70.0mm and that this fragment accounts for just over 9…

A copper-alloy anthropomorphic artefact, probably with a lead core due to the weight. This artefact has a rather dark brown with orange mottled colour but use of a strong magnet receives no reaction. Possibly there was an iron component to this object, now missing, or separate object in close proximity to this one.
Height 18.0mm, width 12.6mm, thickness 13.9mm, weight 11.9g (0.42oz).
This unidentified object is formed of two human heads, the details (cheeks, nose, mouth, chin and hair) probably moulded. The heads are set back to back and an indistict jo…

A twisted strip of silver, the remaining fragment of an unknown artefact type. This fragment weighs 0.99g and has a length of 25.0mm. The strip has a square cross-section measuring 2.5mm x 2.5mm. The act of twisting the strip has created a decorative barley-twist effect due to the spiralling corners of the square shaft. The strip is curved, the bend almost but not consistently curved along the length, which reduces the curved bend (length between the two ends of the fragment) to 22.3mm. The arc of the bend has a maximum depth of 6.6mm. It is not certain whether this bend is part of th…

An iron socketed artefact of uncertain date and function, possibly an agricultural implement, spear or polearm head. This item weighs c.500.0g and appears to be mostly complete, probably with slight damage at the socketed neck end.
The artefact has a length of 312.0mm terminating at one end in a gently rounded point. The metal is rusty and it is uncertain whether the rounded terminal is the original shape. At the pointed terminal the artefact has a thickness of 3.4mm. The blade increases in width away from this tip to the maximum width of 59.4mm where the thickness has increased to…

A possible rivet or nail made of lead or lead-alloy of uncertain date. This item weighs 0.88g, has a tapering length of 20.3mm with irregular cross-section. The widest end is flat with a sub-oval cross-section measuring 4.9mm x 3.7mm. This end appears to be solid however slightly further down the length the appearance is suggestative of the item having been formed of a scrolled length of metal. The dimentions vary along the length constricting slightly before increasing again to a rectangular cross-section measuring 2.6mm x 3.4mm, after which the object tapers to a blunt point.

A solid iron artefact, probably a tool, weighing 177.91g. This object has a length of 214.0mm. To one end the artefact has a blade like form that accounts for c. 125.0mm of the total length. This blade-like end has a maximum width of 30.0mm and maximum thickness of 5.1mm. The tip currently has an irregular, vaguely rounded terminal however it is obvious that damage, to some extent has occurred there resulting in the loss of some metal. At the approximate middle of the object the blade starts to narrow and thicken. As this occurs the cross-section alters from sub-rectangular, at the bl…
