A complete and crudely made Roman copper-alloy melon bead (AD 43-409).
The bead is sub-circular in plan and is its height is variable. The sides are curved and have slightly spiralling grooves and ridges. The central hole has a diameter of 5.1mm.
This bead is slightly corroded to green and has flecks of a darker green patina.
The variability in height may be due to wear.
Maximum height: 8.9mm; length: 11.7mm; width: 10.3mm. Weight: 3.10g.

An incomplete Roman semi-translucent fusiform or long bi-conical glass bead (c. AD 200-c. 300). Birley & Greene 2006: 28; Guido 1978: 221-222.
The bead has a maximum diameter of 4.2mm at the centre and a diameter of c. 3.0mm at each end. Close to the centre, two fine and barely visibly incomplete parallel circumferential incised lines can be seen under magnification. These may have been created during its manufacture.
There is a longitudinal circular hole through the bead. This has parallel sides with a diameter of c. 1.0mm and is chipped around the edges at both ends.

The main part is very dark, almost black and is embellished with creamy white ?glass. This embellishment consists of seven evenly spaced creamy white arched ?glass swirls on the sides. Below these there is a single creamy white circumferential line. On the upper face there are three creamy white circumferential lines whic…

An incomplete cast copper alloy bead of possible Roman date (AD 43 - AD 410). Diameter: 11.8mm; thickness: 3.9mm. Weight: 1.77g.
The bead is almost circular in plan and the edge has a convex profile. An eccentric circular perforation with straight sides has a diameter of 4.8mm. Part of the bead is missing where there is an old break, perhaps due to a casting imperfection.
The bead is in poor condition and corroded overall with scant remains of a mid-green patina.
The bead was found at a site where Roman material is frequently located.
