Lead alloy flat lead disc probably a homemade merchants weight which equates to two ounces. Lead weights of this type have few diagnostic features to be able to attribute them to a specific time period, and were in use from the Roman to Post-Medieval periods. Similar to LVPL-099386 and NARC-7331A1. The diameter is 40mm and the weight 56.70g.

Roman to Medieval cast lead alloy, or lead, perforated circular weight or spindle whorl, biconical with traces of a decorative pattern comprised of lines. The weight has a circular perforation through the centre. In the "Finds Recording Guide", Geake (2001, p66) points out that: "The function of lead weights would have varied, from spindle-whorls to fishing weights to trade weights." A complete circular biconical cast lead-alloy weight, probaby a spindle whorl dating from the Roman period judging by the form and grey patina, i.e. AD72-410. The lead weight is biconical in cross-section with a rounded base and top. It is decorated with a simple pattern of a rough chevrons. The weight is 28mm in diameter and weighs 23.5g. Lead weights like these are common finds, but only rarely from excavated contexts which is why date and origin are difficult to pinpoint.
