A sherd from the rim of a Roman ceramic Samian ware vessel.  The sherd comes from the rim of a deep-sided vessel, probably a bowl, but is too small to estimate the original diameter. The fabric is hard and fine, red-orange with a glossy red-orange slip. Probably of central Gaulish Les Martres-de-Veyre production (LMV SA), which was mostly exported to Britain in the early 2nd century AD. A sherd from the body of a Roman colour-coated ware vessel. Probably Oxfordshire red/brown-slipped ware. Hard, fine-textured fabric with poorly sorted occasion reddish iron ore and fine quartz sand.
