A silver Roman Republican denarius of the moneyer Cn Domitius Calvinus, dating to c. 39 BC (Reece period 1). Obverse: OSCA, head of Hercules right. Reverse: DOM COS ITER IMP. Emblems of the pontificate: simpulum, aspergillum, securis and apex. Mint of Osca (modern Huesca, NE Spain). Crawford 532/1. There is a small hole / punch in the centre of the reverse which does not continue through to the obverse.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman Polden HIll style brooch, dating from c. AD 80-120. The brooch retains both wings which terminate in end caps, pierced to take the spring axis bar. The pin is broken and missing. The bow is angular in form with a rectangular recess at the top of the bow which whould have contained enamelling, but this is now missing. The foot of the brooch terminates in a rounded, expanded knop and the catch plate is intact.

A base sherd from a Roman ceramic vessel, a Samian ware cup, dating to the period AD 145-175. The fabric is fine and hard with a glossy dark red slip on both external and internal surfaces. The base retains some of the pedestal ring. There is a maker's stamp on the base, identified by Paul Booth as die 3a of Albucius II of Lezoux, France, a major centre for Samian production in central Gaul. The form is likely to be a small cup - Dragendorff 33 (see British Museum Collection 1937,0316.2 for a complete example). Many thanks to Paul for his identification of this object.

A complete cast copper alloy Roman figurine of a young Genius, half-robed and holding a patera in the right hand and cornucopia in the left. The statue survives in excellent condition with only slight wear. Depicting a standing Genius, one foot is flat while the other's heal is raised, possibly indicating a walking stance. The right arm is bent at the elbow and held beyond the body, within the palm is a patera, held in place by the thumb above the dish. An incomplete cast copper alloy Late Iron Age / early Roman Colchester one-piece brooch dating to the period AD 25-60. The brooch had a spring cast integrally with the bow but nothing remains of this. Small tabs/wing project either side of the head to protect the spring. The bow is plain and tapers to the pointed foot, catchplate is openwork but mostly missing. There is no other decoration.
