An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman openwork belt mount, probably associated with the military and dating from the 3rd century AD. The is an elaborate pelta shape in plan with a bifurcating terminal which curves towards the concave section of the pelta, one terminal is incomplete due to an old break at the tip of the pelta mount. The reverse of the mount has a large integrally cast rounded shank with wide flattened head that would have secured the mount to a leather strap.

A corroded, flat Roman cast copper alloy pelta-shaped mount. It has a flat lower surface and is bevelled on upper surface. The central 'arm' is bifurcated. The outer arms are rounded. The artefact has corroded to a variable mid-dark green colour. On the lower surface there are traces of an orange-brown corrosion product suggestive of mounting onto iron. Pelta-shaped mounts are associated with the military. A similar artefact has been published as a sword scabbard chape in Appels and Laycock (2007, 48; ref. AA5.27); this recorder is more hesitant.
